Four Vancouver Island hotels receive Michelin key awards

In an exciting recognition of Vancouver Island’s growing reputation for luxury and world-class hospitality, four hotels have earned Michelin Keys in the prestigious 2024 selection.

Leading the group is Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge, located near Tofino, which has been awarded three Michelin Keys, the highest possible distinction.

This accolade places it among an elite group of just 10 properties worldwide and makes it only the second hotel in Canada to receive the honour this year.

This year marks the first time Michelin has selected North American hotels for their coveted Michelin Keys program.

The Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge stood out from 412 hotels evaluated across the US, Mexico, and Canada, with just 33 Canadian properties making the cut.

The Michelin Keys system, similar to the Michelin Stars used for restaurants, celebrates exceptional hospitality experiences.

A one-key rating signifies excellence, two keys highlight truly memorable and distinctive stays, while three keys denote extraordinary luxury.

Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge offers guests a uniquely West Coast experience, accessible only by boat or seaplane.

The eco-conscious resort features 25 luxurious canvas tents outfitted with handcrafted antiques, all connected by cedar walkways through the lush wilderness.

With a spa, horseback riding, paddleboarding, and other outdoor activities, the resort encapsulates the essence of Vancouver Island luxury and adventure.

Other Vancouver Island hotels recognized in the 2024 Michelin Keys selection include Tofino’s Wickaninnish Inn, which earned two keys, and Victoria’s Fairmont Empress and Magnolia Hotel, both receiving one key.

The Michelin Guide’s anonymous inspection team evaluated these properties based on their dedication to high standards of service and unique charm.
