Phillips Backyard’s ‘Reverb’ to close out summer concert series with a bang

In just over a week, Phillip’s Brewing & Malting Company is bringing some of the biggest artists in their respective genres to close out their backyard concert series.

July’s ‘Tilt’ edition of the Phillips Backyard Music Festival brought Saint Motel, Half Moon Run, Jessie Reyez, Noah Cyrus and Orville Peck out to the backyard and ‘Reverb’ is looking to be just as good, if not better.

Reverb will see the Black Pumas headline on Friday, August 9th. After having gone on a lengthy hiatus, the Black Pumas are back at it and attendees can expect a show like they’ve never seen before.

Also on Friday are Victoria mainstays, Current Swell, playing in town for the first time since they performed at the Dylan Willows fundraiser at Royal Theatre in March.

On Saturday, August 10th, one of the greatest rappers alive, Earl Sweatshirt will be taking the stage. As a long-time member of the group Odd Future, alongside Frank Ocean and Tyler the Creator, it’s no wonder someone like Kendrick Lamar considers him one of the best in the game.

Before Earl Sweatshirt performs, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and indie pop/R&B singer Cautious Clay will croon to the backyard. He is not one to miss.

For the Phillips Backyard finale of 2024, the one and only Jungle will take the stage and are sure to have the crowd dancing from tip to tail of their performance. They are coming to Victoria all the way from the UK, where they consistently perform to tens of thousands of people.

Jungle is fresh off winning best British group at this year’s BRIT Awards for their most recent record, Volcano.

Also performing Reverb’s finale is R&B dance duo Drama, who are coming all the way out from Chicago and will set the stage perfectly for Jungle to close the show out.

In amongst all these juggernauts of music are a myriad of local musicians and bands who are incredible and are getting the chance to play one of the city’s biggest festivals of the summer. Some of these artists are Trophy Dad, TK The Artist, Astrocolor, the Bankes Brothers, Nicky MacKenzie, Posh Coat and so many more.

Additionally, Phillips just announced the daily themes for Reverb; Friday is ‘Colours’ where attendees are encouraged to wear their most colourful attire, Saturday is ‘Earl Sweats Day’ where sweatsuits in public is heavily encouraged and Sunday is ‘Disco Jungle’ where the rule of thumb is the shinier the better—everything and everyone needs to be glitter bombed.

There will be more food vendors than ever, more games than ever, a plethora of seating space and shaded zones as well as misting stations to keep everyone cool.

If you missed out on Tilt, you won’t want to miss Reverb. Check out the video below for a taste of what to expect with Orville Peck and Noah Cyrus performing “How Far Will They Take It” live, for the first time ever.
