There’s a massive free family-friendly festival returning to Fort Street this weekend

Clear a path!

Fort Street will come alive with vibrant festivities this Saturday, August 10th, as it is transformed into a pedestrian haven for the second annual Upper Fort StreetFest.

The street will be closed to vehicles and cyclists from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for this popular event, which promises a day of fun for all ages.

This year’s Upper Fort StreetFest features a diverse lineup of activities, including an adult beverage garden, a local maker’s market, and a variety of family-friendly attractions such as a bouncy castle, face painting, and balloon twisting.

Attendees can also enjoy live music, art activities, and drag story time, along with a free photobooth.

Local businesses along Upper Fort Street (between Cook and Vancouver Streets) will join the celebration, offering sales, demonstrations, and showcasing their unique offerings. The event highlights the vibrant community spirit and diverse range of local enterprises in the area.

The festival first took place in June 2023, following the expansion of the Downtown Victoria Business Association (DVBA) boundaries in 2022.

The inclusion of Upper Fort businesses in the DVBA prompted the organization to spotlight this part of downtown. According to organizers, the inaugural event was a resounding success, drawing thousands of attendees and setting the stage for an annual celebration.

“Downtown Victoria is made up of wonderful micro-communities of unique shops, restaurants, and entrepreneurs,” said DVBA CEO, Jeff Bray.

“These local businesses are the heart of downtown; they are central to the city’s vibrancy and vitality. Upper Fort StreetFest is a perfect example of business coming together to celebrate community.”
